Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Application for International MS in Statistics and Data Science students
Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISS) requirement about CPT:
To be qualified for CPT, students need to meet the criteria detailed at OISS website: https://www.northwestern.edu/international/international-students/student-employment/cpt-for-f1-students.html
If a student plans to work on CPT for the first summer quarter:
- The student must register for STAT 595 in the summer if the student will not be able to finish all required course work for the MS degree before the beginning of Fall quarter of the second year.
- If the student will have completed all required course work for the MS degree before the beginning of Fall quarter in the second year of study, the student can register for STAT 595 in summer, or register for TGS 512 (thesis-track) or STAT 595 (non-thesis track) in Fall quarter of the second year.
If a student plans to work on CPT in a regular quarter:
- The student must register for TGS 512 (thesis-track) or STAT 595 (non-thesis track) in the same quarter, the preceding quarter, or the following quarter.
In all situations, completion of the required CPT-related course within the required timeframe is mandatory for students who do CTP. Failure to comply by this policy will be regarded as unauthorized employment and may affect your immigration status.
